🇩🇰 Gala for Ukraine — Postscript

  • 🇩🇰 Royal Danish Theatre 9 Kongens Nytorv København, 1050 Denmark (map)

Roger to perform Sol León & Paul Lightfoot’s duet from Postscript with Russian prima ballerina Olga Smirnova, accompanied by pianist Alexander McKenzie.

Roger has performed this duet from Postscript internationally with NDT (accompanied by NDT pianist Jan Schouten), during his time as a dancer of NDT2.
Most recently, in April of 2021, Roger had the pleasure of re-staging it in Moscow on Bolshoi principal dancers Olga Smirnova and Artemy Belyakov. Over one year later, Roger and Olga reunite, only this time to perform it together… and for a great and important cause!

Lawyer Philip Maury has initiated a gala performance at The Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen, in which the proceeds of the event went to the Red Cross for its work among the victims of the war in Ukraine. All artists waived their fees in service of the cause.

Philip Maury himself has no personal or professional relations with Ukraine, but has initiated the performance because, as he says:

"It is necessary to help the victims of war here and now!! Children, women, families first and foremost. The innocent are always the first to suffer and it is our duty to support them. This can be done in many ways, and although the urgent need is always for safety, shelter and warmth for those left behind as well as for those fleeing, I want to use the life-giving energy of the performing arts to show them the light in the darkness and at the same time raise money to try to come to their rescue. That they are not forgotten, but that we fight for them on all fronts. Art too!"

Forward to August 2022, Phillip organizes the event yet again and the profits go uncut towards the reconstruction of the war-torn cultural heritage in Ukraine.
