Nederlands Dans Theater 1, the trailblazing ensemble whose preeminence has captivated the world, returns to City Center with two US premieres and a NY premiere in celebration of the company’s 60th Anniversary Season. Its dancers, powerhouses of technique and artistry, bring uncommon depth to the physically demanding and theatrically nuanced repertoire.

“A surreal thriller” (TROUW, Netherlands), Gabriela Carrizo’s The missing door bends reality as it depicts an ugly nightmare where the living set is part of the violent action. This work epitomizes NDT’s tradition of embracing adventure and theatricality, as well as giving each of its creators the artistic freedom to pursue their unique vision.

Marco Goecke’s Walk the Demon builds upon a body of work exhibiting his signature movement vocabulary. Performed with breathtaking precision and coordination, the dancers demonstrate NDT’s ability to embody Goecke’s vision like no other company.

Singulière Odyssée by NDT’s house choreographers—artistic advisor Sol León and artistic director Paul Lightfoot—is set in an Art Deco train station where dancers come and go as passersby except for one who lingers, frozen in time. Performed to Max Richter’s “Exiles,” composed exclusively for the piece, Singulière Odyssée is a reflection on travel and transformation.
